Title of the activity
WTO Technical Workshop on Fisheries Subsidies for French-speaking African countries
Activity Type
Regional course/Workshop
Description
The WTO now has two lines of work for fisheries subsidies, both of which are essential if the Agreement is to be effective in disciplining fisheries subsidies. The first line of work concerns the entry into force and implementation of the new Agreement. For the Agreement to enter into force, two-thirds of the Members must complete their internal acceptance processes and deposit their "instrument of acceptance" with the WTO. Then, for the new disciplines to have a concrete effect on subsidisation, Members must ensure their full implementation. The second line of work concerns the second round of negotiations that Members have agreed to undertake, with a view to making recommendations to WCL13 to further strengthen the disciplines.
