Description
The Workshop is organized by the Market Access Division (MAD) in cooperation with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Malaysia). The Workshop offers specialized training to Malaysian government officials with direct responsibility in Market Access Issues.
The five-day Workshop consists of two parts:
i) lectures, case studies and hands-on exercises on:
• basic WTO principles and rules concerning tariffs and Schedules of concessions, including the renegotiations under Article XXVIII of the GATT
• the WTO tariff and import databases and tools, including their use in negotiations and data analysis
• plurilateral tariff negotiations, including the Information Technology Agreement (ITA) and the ITA Expansion
• the WTO rules concerning non-tariff measures and quantitative restrictions, including the notification requirements
• general knowledge of the Agreement on Import Licensing Procedures and the Agreement on Trade Facilitation
ii) coaching sessions on the analysis of existing notifications and the preparation by participants of draft notifications;
