Description
The objective of this intermediate thematic course for LDCs (PLS level 2) is to deepen the participants' understanding of the key LDC issues being considered in the WTO, including the work programme on special and differential treatment (S&D), progress made in the implementation of decisions taken in favour of LDCs as well as capacity-building programmes. Possible issues of interest to LDCs in recent discussions as well as for the Twelfth WTO Ministerial Conference will also be taken up.

The first half of the course will focus on key LDC issues, namely S&D, preferential market access in goods and services, LDC issues in TRIPS and capacity-building initiatives (Aid for Trade Initiative, Enhanced Integrated Framework). The second half of the course will focus on the interests of LDCs in the current discussions in the WTO. Sessions, inter alia, will include a roundtable with LDC delegates on priorities for MC12, briefings on the status of negotiations in the areas of agriculture and fisheries subsidies, as well as discussions taking place under joint initiatives.

In terms of formats, the course will employ presentations, exercises and a round table discussion. This activity will be held in English.

The course is targeted at mid-level Government officials from LDCs currently working on WTO related matters and who have completed the WTO e-learning course "Introduction to the WTO" or the face to face "Introduction Course for LDCs" in Geneva. In addition, the candidate must possess an excellent ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
