Title of the activity
WTO Thematic Course on Trade in Value Added Statistics and Global Value Chains
Activity Type
Thematic course/Workshop
Description
The course is targeted at trade statisticians and economist-statisticians involved in the compilation of trade-related statistics and/or the analysis and policy making in the field of international trade.

The course addresses the concepts and key policy messages from Trade in Value Added (TiVA) indicators as well as the different ways to assess the impact of Global Value Chains (GVCs) on trade. Individual sessions will cover a wide range of topics on TiVA and GVCs, by alternating knowledge and experience sharing, hands-on practice, round tables and live demos. As an example, the first day of the training will be devoted to TiVA basics, the role of the WTO to foster the integration of developing economies in supply chains as well as recent insights arising from GVC research. The next days will focus on indicators most commonly used for trade analysis and the underlying methodology.

Hands-on exercises will constitute the guideline of the course to assist trainees in using TiVA online databases and facilitate their understanding and interpretation of the indicators.
