Title of the activity
Singapore - WTO Workshop on Sustainable Trade
Activity Type
Global
Description
The main objective of this Workshop is to enhance knowledge and understanding of the on-going work and discussions at the WTO on how trade, trade policy and the multilateral trading system intersect with efforts to address the triple environmental challenges of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss. The workshop will provide a background on the relevant topics, where the discussions currently stand and how these aspects are covered under the various WTO Agreements, institutions and negotiating fora, including the new environmental initiatives on to Trade and Environmental Sustainability, Fossil Fuel Subsidy Reform and Plastics Pollution and Environmentally Sustainable Plastics Trade. Addressing these issues in a single workshop, will allow for a more comprehensive assessment of the WTO trade regime as it applies to trade and environmental policies adopted to address these challenges, as well as the interaction of the different disciplines and regimes in this rapidly expanding area. The Workshop will also provide a forum for participants to exchange views and share national and regional experiences with respect to the opportunities and challenges in this field.
