Description
This national activity, at the request of Kenya - and in particular the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) - is intended to discuss the implementation of the WTO TBT Agreement with key regulators in the various counties of the country. KEBS intends to invite and sponsor the participation of regulators from the regions in Kenya. One main area of discussion will be the differences between procedures for standard-setting and regulation within the country. Efforts are being made to stream-line the way regulations that affect trade are developed so as to ensure that thay taken into account the principles of the TBT Agreement and are correctly filtered through KEBS (the Enquiry Point) and the Ministry of Trade (the Notification Authority) when notified to the WTO. In this way, Kenya is trying to make more efficient its participation and engagement in TBT Committee work.
