Title of the activity
WTO National Workshops on quantitative restrictions (Art.XI of the GATT) and on rules of origin in international trade.
Activity Type
National
Description
This technical assistance activity involves two workshops on two different topics of international trade.
The first, on rules of origin, aims to familiarize participants with the determination of the origin of goods in international trade. In particular, it will address the methods used to determine substantial transformation and the most common practices in regional trade agreements. Finally, it will provide an overview of the legal provisions relating to origin contained in the WTO agreements.
The second workshop, on quantitative restrictions, will allow participants to familiarize themselves with the obligations contained in Article XI of GATT 1994 and its possible exceptions. In addition, it will provide an opportunity for government officials to prepare a draft notification on national quantitative restrictions for the Market Access Committee.
Following the workshops, participants will have better theoretical and practical knowledge on both topics and will be able to participate more actively and better informed in the work of the WTO Committees.
